Bellis Fruit Bars was established in 1952 in Unley, an inner City suburb of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. The founder of Bellis Fruit Bars, Mr. Nicholas Vellisaropoulos gave his shortened, modified surname, to the company as its name [Vellis to Bellis].
Nicholas unfortunately passed away in 1996 at the ripe old age of 95, but the company he founded has progressed over the years to become the category leader and the number one producer of school fruit bars and other dried fruit based confectionery, in Australia. Our annual production has been as high as 100,000,000 20-gram fruit bars per annum, (equivalents). If we were to put one year's production of these bars end to end they would extend 9,000 kilometres!
Bellis Fruit Bars products are sold in all Australian Supermarkets including Woolworths, Coles, Safeway, Foodland, Bi-Lo, Metcash and many other Independent Supermarkets. In addition, many smaller specialty retailers such as local "fruit and vegetable shops" stock a limited range.
In 1996, we relocated to our own world class manufacturing facility, of some 20,000 square metres of land, located within the northern outer Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth South. We expended a significant amount of funds and effort to make our factory the best possible food grade manufacturing facility we possibly could. Comments staff have received include "very impressive" and "world class".
We employ a significant number of talented, creative and dedicated South Australians. Bellis Fruit Bars has the necessary qualified Quality Assurance Personnel and third party certified HACCP Food Safety Systems in place to ensure customer expectations are not only met, but exceeded. We have a long established Research and Development arrangement with the nearby University of South Australia, who developed and installed our company's Quality Assurance System in the early 1990's.
Continuous consultation occurs between University of South Australia personnel and Bellis Fruit Bars Quality Assurance personnel and we have successfully developed new products to customer requirements utilising the University's resources. Our Quality Assurance personnel are part of the technical group that comprises the nations top confectionery manufacturers to ensure we remain at the very cutting edge of our field.
Bellis Fruit Bars believe that community involvement is very important and we support directly, many South Australian and Australian educational, sporting and community organisations. In addition, Directors and Staff give of their time to participate, in an advisory capacity, on economic, community and sporting organisation's boards and committees.
